Dr. Ramirez was born and raised in the Philippines. She always knew she wanted to be a physician even as a young girl. She remembers relishing her frequent visits to her pediatrician. To achieve her goals, she majored in Biology and eventually went to medical school. It was on her fourth year that she realized she really enjoyed working with children and pursued a pediatric residency after graduation.
She was active in medical missions in the Philippines during medical school and residency, as she was determined to help others and make a difference. She worked as a consultant in Pediatrics, training residents at a public hospital in Manila and was in private practice at the same time.
After much encouragement from her sister, she made the difficult decision to move to the US. She finished a second pediatric residency at Cleveland Clinic which gave her a different perspective on medical practice. She left Ohio to be closer to family and practiced in Mason County for three years.
After journeying to different parts of the world, Dr. Ramirez met and married Dino, who is from Australia, and eventually settled in Olympia. The couple hopes to continue to explore the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. They both like to travel and volunteer in their community and church. Rowena enjoys reading, dancing and theater. She is a budding gardener and an aspiring cook. She hopes to continue her medical missions in the Philippines and is looking forward to join her colleagues as they do more international mission work.
